The tone of the story changes in chapter three of the Bible, wihch we will study this Sunday. Chapter two ends with a wedding celebration; chapter three begins with the sneer of the Prince of Lies, Satan in the form of a snake.

Eve is enticed by deception--the lie that God was withholding benefits from her that she deserved. We witness our ancestors committing the first sins, aligning themselves with those who rebel against God. These sins changed everything to this very day.

In this passage, God tells us how He creates and sculpts Adam and then makes Eve from out of Adam. They are created as complements - male and female. In them God creates both the beauty of interdependence and the structure of creation order. God Himself brings them together and conducts the first wedding--an archetype of what God intends marriage to be, even in a broken world like our own. Gen. 2:15
The LORD God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to work it and keep it.

At the beginning of the Story of the Bible, on the final creative day, God makes man. He handcrafts humans, places them in the Garden of Eden, and instructs them how they are to use their time and energy. In these instructions we see one of the purposes the Creator has designed for our lives: we are to reflect Him in our seven day week.

Redemption - Part 2: "Imago Deo" - Romans 1 - 4

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness." The Story of the Bible begins with God making male and female in His own image and likeness. In the middle of the story, Jesus is born in the likeness of man. At the end of the Biblical story, the children of God are bodily resurrected and "bear the image of the man of heaven (Jesus)." (1 Cor. 15:49)

We need to know what it means to be made in the image of God--Imago Deo. It affects how we view our "self-image" and how we see others made in His image.
